The Wales Final Festival of One-Act plays: the pilot project

The DAW Executive has decided to undertake a pilot project this year relating to the Wales final festival and to the regional rounds that feed into the final.

In the previous system, each year the 6 highest-scoring productions across the regions were invited to perform at the Wales final.  For 2014, as part of the pilot, this system has been set aside in favour of the winning production of each of the 7 regional festivals being invited to perform at the final.

The usual pattern (of 3 performances at both the Friday and Saturday evenings) of the Wales final has had to be amended to accommodate a 7th performance.

For 2014, the festival will consist of

  • Friday evening - 3 plays
  • Saturday afternoon - 2 plays
  • Saturday evening - 2 plays

For 2014 the usual rule at that all regional festivals must be adjudicated by the same GoDA adjudicator is not in place.  Festivals are able to book their own adjudicators, although several regions have opted for the same adjudicator.

We are grateful to ACW for their financial assistance towards the costs of adjudicating the regional rounds this year.

Please note that all these changes are a pilot for 2014 only - the process will be reviewed again next year.

The regions hosting festivals are:

  • Anglesey
  • Clwyd
  • Conwy
  • Glamorgan
  • Gwent
  • Montgomeryshire
  • Pembrokeshire

The adjudicator for the Wales Final Festival this year will be Marie O'Sullivan GoDA, who was the adjudicator for the regional rounds of the festival last year.

The Wales final festival will be held this year on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th June 2014 at the Congress Theatre, Cwmbran.  Full details about tickets, booking etc are on our Wales Final Festivals page.
