About Us
The Drama Association of Wales was founded in 1934 and has been a registered charity since 1973, you can read more about our history here.
The function of DAW is to increase opportunities for people in the community to be creatively involved in drama that is both enjoyable and of a high standard.
Based in the capital city of Wales, Cardiff, we currently have nearly 500 members, from across the world, many of whom have been members for many years.
Members include:
- amateur and professional theatre practitioners
- playwrights
- amateur drama groups
- teachers
- academics
- schools, colleges and universities
- anyone who has an interest in drama
New members are always welcome.
Membership fees are payable annually: Individual Membership starts from just £20 and Group Membership starts from £42. For further information, see our Join Us page.
We offer a wide and varied range of services to Community Drama on a worldwide basis. These services include:
- access to the largest specialist Drama Lending Library in the world
- information and networking services to the whole range of participatory drama
- DAWN - the DAW magazine
DAWN MAGAZINE is published four times a year, containing News, Views, Advice, Dates, and Competitions. Each edition includes an eight page pull-out Library Supplement giving reviews of all the additions to the Library. Content for DAWN is always welcome: please Contact Us if you have an item or an article that might be of interest to the wider membership.
Within Wales, membership also includes:
- practical help and advice on current legislative policy governing good practice within the voluntary arts
- help, advice and evaluation relating to schemes seeking funding from the National Lottery
